Hi, I am Carl, join me on my Nordic Walking Adventures!
I base my Nordic Walking adventures from my home in West Sussex, currently concentrating on Havant, Hayling Island, Chichester, Arundel, Bognor Regis, East Hampshire, Witterings, Emsworth, Rowlands Castle and Midhurst Areas. This blog covers not only my adventures, but the conditioning and training that keeps me fit and I look to share with others. I invite you to become a part of the journey!
I wasn't always an active person. As a IT professional with some 40+ years of experience most of my time was spent in an office environment, commuting or traveling for business meetings. Then in my mid 50’s I had a life changing event - I foolishly undertook a 1/2 marathon … with insufficient preparation/training. Around the 5 mile mark (exhausted) I was passed by several walkers propelling themselves with poles and having a conversation with apparently no effort or exertion. I just had to find out what it was all about … it looked so much more enjoyable and sociable than my running activities. So I discovered Nordic Walking and loved it so much that I trained to become an instructor and walk leader. That was 7 years ago (OMG) and my only regret is not finding it sooner. I am not just fitter but have found a community of friends to share life with.
Nordic Walking ? that’s just walking with poles isn’t it like hiking or trekking. Actually No. Nordic Walking was first developed in Finland around 1930’s as a means for cross country skiers to keep their fitness and technique during the months where there was little or no snow. The poles not only provide stability but are a major source of forward propulsion. I could rabbit on for paragraphs here but the best way to find out more is to come join me on a free 45 minutes “Sampler Session”.
